The Substance is a 2024 body horror film from Coralie Fargeat, who serves as writer, director, co-editor, and co-producer. The story follows Elisabeth Sparkle (Demi Moore), a once-iconic celebrity grappling with the realities of aging in a ruthless industry. After being dismissed by her producer (Dennis Quaid) for no longer fitting the mold, Elisabeth turns to a black-market drug that transforms her into a younger version of herself (Margaret Qualley). But this newfound youth comes at a terrifying cost, unraveling in ways no one could have anticipated.
