Twenty years ago, the world was taken by storm by a reverse bear trap, a saw, and a little puppet named Billy. We’re super excited to start our look back at the Saw franchise and discuss the influence it’s had over the horror drama.
This week, we delve into Saw, the directorial debut of horror Daddy James Wan starring Carey Elwes, Leigh Whannell, Danny Glover, and introducing Tobin Bell. We delve into the performances, the work Wan and Whannell had to put in just to get someone to care about the project, and how they caught lightning in a bottle when they premiered at Sundance.

This week, we’re wrapping up Death Note and putting a cute little bow on it. After the death of L, there’s an intense battle over who will be his successor as Light Yagami becomes the worst version of himself. There’s action, death, and Shinigami as we reach the exciting conclusion of one of the best animes ever made!
And, get ready as we launch our Saw retrospective this month and start a new show for the miniseries…and by get ready I mean actually get ready because the show is Fall of the House of Usher and we will be reading the corresponding Poe stories and will get literary with it.

The Stormy Skies can’t stop watching Death Note, which means we’ve made it to the final arc of the series. That’s right, with nine episodes left, L is dead, Rem is dead, and Light has done nothing to make him worthy of the adorable and perfect Misa Amane.
There’s also been a slight hiccup with our 2024 plans to do a Saw retrospective. As in, the series is no longer on Shudder. But there’s no need to fear because it’ll probably end up on Peacock. Like every other popular horror franchise these days.
We also touch briefly on the unjust firing of Melissa Barrer from Scream 7 for tweeting the mildest take on the Palestinian Genocide. Which is that Genocide is bad. Because it is bad. Check the links below for ways to support Palestinian families during this crisis.

his week we’re very excited to finally review the Shudder exclusive The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster, which is a re-telling of the classic Mary Shelley novel Frankestein.
The Angry Balck Girl and Her Monster follows Vicaria (Laya DeLeon Hayes), a gifted seventeen-year-old, as she tries to find a cure for death. She uses her research and passion to resurrect her older brother Chris, who returns to the world a vengeful monster seeking revenge on those who caused his death.

Oh no! This week we discover that there’s a second Kira who’s made a deal to get the Shinigami eyes. Will they serve as an ally to Light or a hindrance? Meanwhile, the sexual tension between L and Light only grows as L tests Light to see if he’d make a good fit for the task force…or to figure out if he’s really Kira.
Oh, and Chief Yagami asserts his badassery by driving a city bus into a TV station…two minutes after a serious heart attack.
We also get into the Video Game Awards, and Sam has some spicy takes about Baulder’s Gate 3…no, I promise she likes it…it just wasn’t ready to be released this year. What sane studio releases a game in a Zelda year? Come on. Rookie move. Also, GotY is going to Resident Evil 4. That’s the delusional hill I’ll die on.
And they agree the next movie they’ll watch is The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster. But that’s not the only decision they make--they’ll be tackling the Saw Franchise come December to decide whether or not #JohnKramerdidnothingwrong.

The Japanese horror film Audition is considered one of the greatest horror movies of all time. Which is why we’re super pumped to finally watch it on this week’s episode of the podcast. Will it live up to the My Chemical Romance music video for Honey, this Mirror isn’t Big Enough for the Two of Us?
Audition stars Eihi Siina and Ryo Ishibashi and tells the story of a widower who is ready to find love again after the blessing of his only son. He and his friend decide to hold an audition for a fake movie in order to find him the perfect wife. This is when he meets and becomes enchanted by the mysterious Asami--who is as dangerous as she is beautiful.

It’s kind of hard to believe that it’s taken us this long to dive into the world of J-Horror. Well, thanks to the amazing selection on Shudder (not sponsored) we’re finally getting to it.
Ring (or Ringu) is a 1998 horror movie that follows a reporter as she explores the mystery behind a cursed videotape. Allegedly, anyone who watches the tape is doomed to die in exactly seven days (what, like seven business days? But Monday’s a holiday?)

It’s time to take a break from the thrilling and repetitive world of The Vampire Diaries and turn The Stormy Skies into a filthy, disgusting nerd by watching Death Note.
Death Note is a now classic Shonen anime that follows Light Yagami as he unlocks the secrets of the Death Note--a notebook that kills anyone whose name is written inside. But, uh oh, it seems like the real police aren’t too fond of this turn of events, so they team up with the mysterious L to bring him to justice. It’s a good one. Join us by streaming it on your preferred anime streaming service.
